According to the disadvantage of the large noises of histogram equalization algorithm  a new adaptive image enhancement algorithm is presented. First  the statistical histogram of the infrared image is done. Then the threshold of plateaus Equalization is calculated and the statistical histogram is modified. Finally the bright values of the pixels of the image are changed. An embedded high speed image enhancement processing system on high performance DSP TMS320DM642 and FPGA was designed. Experimental results with real images shown that the system can improve the contrast of the infrared image  limit the noises of the enhancement image  and effectively enhance the infrared image  the running time of the program is shorter  so it can meet the requirements of real-time in the project. Nitrogen-doped ZnO thin films were grown on c-plane sapphire (Al 2O3) substrates via plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy using plasma activated nitric oxide (NO) as the oxygen source and dopant. X-ray diffraction measurements indicate that a small NO flux benefits the crystal quality of the thin films. Hall effect measurements indicate that the electron density of the ZnO films decreases gradually with decreasing NO flux  and the conduction reverses to p-type at a certain flux. Optical emission spectra indicate that the N atom content in the NO plasma increases with decreasing NO flux  and the origin of this is discussed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements demonstrate that the number of N atom occupied O sites in the ZnO lattice increases correspondingly. 2011 American Institute of Physics.

Accurate surgical planning and guidance plays an important role in successful implementation of image guided intervention. In interventional lung cancer diagnosis and treatments  precise segmentation of airway trees from lung CT images provides crucial visualization for preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance to avoid major trachea injury. While 3D region growing can segment main the parts of an airway tree (trachea  left and right main bronchus  as well as bronchi)  the method fails at bronchiole segmentation and is not robust. Mathematical morphology is an anatomical detective. In this paper  we propose a morphological gradient based region growing (MGRG) algorithm to overcome the intensity inhomogeneity  and improve the robustness of 3D region growing on extraction of bronchioles. The MGRG algorithm is validated using lung CT images  and results show that it is able to segment bronchioles  and outperforms the traditional region growing method on airway tree segmentation. 2011 IEEE.
