920 nm optically pumped semiconductor vertical external-cavity surface emitting laser (OPS-VECSEL) has an important application in laser display. We constructed and optimized a 920 nm OPS-VECSEL with active region of In0.09Ga0.91As quantum well (QW) system pumped by 808 nm laser diode module. By the finite element method
self-consistent solutions of the semiconductor electronic and optical equations are realized to calculate the characteristics parameters of OPS-VECSEL. The performances of device especially the mode
the threshold and the optical-optical translation efficiency were analyzed by dealing with different number of QWs (1
2 and 3) in one period

Point defect cavity was constructed in a two-dimensional phononic crystal plate. It was excited by a small piezo chip in the cavity and the vibration of each point defect modes were detected by an optical interferometer. Point defect modes on 2D PC plate in vacuum
air and loaded with water were investigated theoretically and experimentally to make clear of Q factors
which are affected by inner attenuation
band gap effects and medium. The way to get high Q resonance has been found. It helps to design a new kind of resonator or sensor. 2011 IEEE.

In high precise surface testing
temperature stability and uniformity are of paramount importance to the high accuracy of test results. Micro-temperature variation and temperature gradients not only cause the change of the air refractive index and lead to the optical path variation in interferometer cavity
but also result in deformation of the tested surface itself
which always brings about errors to the test results. Temperature effects on the interferometer cavity and the tested surface are analyzed from the axial and radial directions in this letter. Temperature model of the interferometer cavity and the tested lens are established and quantitative calculations and diagram of test results versus temperature and lens dimension are provided. It shows that temperature gradients effect increase with the length of the interferometer and the dimension of the tested lens. The interferometer cavity is mainly affected by radial temperature gradients while the tested lens is mainly affected by the axial temperature gradients. 2010 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.
