中文摘要selenoprotein m (selm) was discovered in 2002 by bioinformatics analysis. selm is located in the endoplasmic reticulum, containing a common redox motif cysteine-x-x-selenocysteine. selm attracts great attention due to its high expression in brain and its potential roles in antioxidative defense, neuroprotective function and cytosolic calcium regulation. this paper reviews recent research progress in selm, especially its biological function and its relation with diseases, together with the author's work on selm. the prospect of selm research is also discussed in this paper.
