英文摘要	PURPOSE:To make the pickup device small in size and thin in the profile by arranging a laser element in a housing part so that an electric field vector of a light beam is directed in a direction orthogonal to a lengthwise direction of a mount base. CONSTITUTION:The housing part 21 is mounted to the center of a rectangular mount base 22 whose mount position is adjustable. A laser element 23 arranged in a housing 21 is so mounted that the light beam is directed in a direction orthogonal to the lengthwise direction of the mount base 22 with respect to an electric field vector B. The optical disk D of the laser diode device 20 formed in this way is arranged in a direction orthogonal to a recording track T of an optical disk D to make the pickup 29 small and thin in its profile.
