英文摘要PURPOSE:To obtain the steady output of the second higher harmonic wave corresponding to the variation and dispersion of the input of the basic wave by making the matched wave length of an optical wave directing path type wave length converting element variable. CONSTITUTION:A light wave length converting element is formed of an optical wave directing path type wave length converting element 10 which is composed of a core 11 formed of non-linear optical crystal whose variation caused by temperature change of refractive index is above 1X10/ deg.C and a clad 12 coming into contact with the core, and converts the primary ray incident upon the core into the secondary higher harmonic wave having half-wave length, and a thermoelectric element element 20 being in contact with the element 10. A Peltier element used for the element 10 can minutely control its own heating and cooling corresponding to the direction of applied current. Since the potassium niobate of the element 10 has high temperature dependency in the variation of the refractive index, the temperature of the element 10 can be controlled using the Peltier element 20 for converting the matched wave length of the primary incident light. For example, in the case of the conversion of the wave length of the output ray of a semi-conductor laser utilized for an optical memory, the output fluctuation, which is caused by the wave length fluctuation of the laser ray in a wave length converter, of the second higher harmonic wave can be lessened.
