英文摘要A coupled thermomechanical formulation is presented to investigate local heating in shear banding of metallic glasses. The heat source is related to mechanical deformation; heat conduction and temperature distribution are revealed through finite-element modeling. We show that the maximum local temperature rise inside the propagating shear bands can reach only tens of degrees; however, strain rate is found to affect local heating significantly. The results shed new light on the controversies over experimental findings and theoretical explanations. (C) 2011 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
