英文摘要 | The mixing of turbulent jets and plumes in a current is illustrated by a detailed study of a jet in crossflow. The practical importance of dilution prediction in environmental applications and simple equations based on self-similarity and the line puff analogy are first discussed. A 3D numerical solution of an advected line puff - a turbulent non-buoyant jet introduced at no excess horizontal momentum into a horizontal crossflow, is then presented. The numerical results of the standard two-equation k - ?? model show that the advected line puff is characterized by a longitudinal transition, from an initially near-vertical jet through a bent-over phase during which the jet becomes almost parallel with the main freestream, to a sectional vortex-pair flow with double concentration maxima; the computed flow details and scalar mixing characteristics can be described by self-similar relations beyond a dimensionless distance of around 20 - 30. The aspect ratio and maximum concentration ratio for the kidney-shaped sectional puff are all found to be around 1.2. A loss in vertical momentum is observed and the added mass coefficient of the puff motion is found to be approximately 1. The predicted puff flow and mixing rate are well-supported by experimental and field data. The analogy between the bentover phase of a j et in crossflow (the advected line puff) and the corresponding line puff is examined. The coefficients in the self-similar relations are derived from the numerical solution, and a practical application example is given.; EI; 0 |
