英文摘要Sexual reproduction in higher plants consists of several major biological processes which include mega- and micro-gametogenesis, male-female com-munications, embryogenesis and endosperm devel-opment. Male-female communications include male gametophyte-sporophytic tissues (stigma/transmit-ting tract) interaction and male-female gametophyte communication, during which various signaling path-ways are involved. Elucidation of the molecular mechanisms by which these male-female communi-cations are regulated contributes to our understand-ing of fundamental plant biology and provides tools to improve crop yields. Because of their role in plant growth and development, molecular mechanisms regulating different plant reproductive processes have been studied extensively, and much progress has been achieved in the past decade. For example, the receptors controlling microsporogenesis (Zhao et al. 2002; Li et al. 2017), pollen tube reception (Escobar-Restrepo et al. 2007), pollen tube guidance (Takeuchi and Higashiyama 2016; Wang et al. 2016), and the ligands that trigger pollen tube guidance (Okuda et al. 2009) and activation of sperm cells for membrane fusion (Sprunck et al. 2012) have been identified. It is worth noticing that more and more Chinese scientists participate in the identification of the components controlling those communications in plant reproduction (Wu et al. 2012;Liu et al. 2015;Hao et al. 2016; Hou et al. 2016; Wang et al. 2016; Wang et al. 2017;Zhang et al. 2017). The articles here in this special issue partially reflect their efforts in this field.
