A New Mass Determination of (349) Dembowska with Close Encounters

英文摘要(349) Dembowska is a big R-type main-belt asteroid. A new and more precise determination of its mass, M, is presented. The high precision is achieved, in particular, using our generally applied criterion of selecting model parameters. This criterion takes into account the sensitivity to M of the available observables, i.e., the position of another much smaller body involved in a close encounter with (349) Dembowska. Using this criterion, as well as observations from the Minor Planet Center (MPC) and the ephemeris DE431, M is redetermined to be (4.1 +/- 0.4) x 10(18) kg, which is a weighted mean of compatible masses independently determined with five encounters. From the most recently determined effective diameter, we get a bulk density of rho = 2.08 +/- 0.24 g cm(-3) for (349) Dembowska. A macroporosity of 36 is derived from a grain density of 3.25 g cm(-3).
