A new practical method for two-dimensional slope stability analysis

英文摘要This study proposes a new method to simulate the stability of two-dimensional slope. The method called Vector Sum Method (VSM) estimates the stability of a slope by comparing the projection of the total resisting force with the total sliding force. Its feasibility is examined by use of three examples to simulate the earthen slope with different soil composition (homogeneous, non-homogeneous, and undrained with a weak layer). It is found that both safety factors and failure-surfaces locations simulated by the proposed method coincide highly with the limit equilibrium solutions. The discussion section centers on the possible problems of using this method in three-dimensional slope stability analysis.
