PERFORMANCE OF THERMAL PRETREATMENT FOR PATHOGEN INACTIVATION OF FECAL SLUDGE

英文摘要This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of thermal pretreatment (70 degrees C) to inactivate pathogens using fecal coliforms, Salmonella spp., fecal streptococci, and helminth eggs as indicators. The effects of total solid (TS) content and holding time on pathogen inactivation and sludge solubilization were investigated. The resulting survival curves were described using the first-order model or the Weibull model; the fit effectiveness of these models was investigated. Results showed that holding time exerted a more positive effect on pretreatment than TS. Thermal pretreatment of 1% to 12% TS sludge completely inactivated the pathogens within 100 min. The regression coefficients indicated that the Weibull model had a better fit than the first-order model. Furthermore, thermal pretreatment enhanced sludge solubilization. At TS concentrations of 1%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, and 12%, the SCOD values increased from 3570, 6470, 11620, 12360, 15150, 29550, and 39250 mg L-1 to 4580, 8650, 15060, 16400, 22290, 43060, and 56700 mg L-1, respectively, and the amounts of soluble proteins increased from 0.176, 0.327, 0.636, 1.024, 1.233, 1.340, and 1.563 g L-1 to 0.757, 1.514, 3.623, 6.490, 8.125, 8.787, and 9.083 g L-1, respectively.
