中文摘要 | The Sah-Stiglitz "Economics of Price Scissor" model, concerning the political economy of price scissors, formulates the optimal terms of trade against peasants. In the present paper, by extending their model to an open economy and allowing agricultural rationing, we first check whether their model stands up to China’s data and, if so, estimate its key structural parameters. Using a province-level panel data over the years 1949-1992, we find that the weight of peasants in the government’s welfare objective function is smaller than the weight of workers. In addition, the weight of current consumption is also smaller than that of future investment. Such findings are consistent with China’s reality. |
