's( 2013) visual discourse semantics and Martinec & Salway's( 2005) network of logical semantic relations between texts and images,this paper uses Halliday's conception of logico-semantic expansion between clauses for the analysis of image-text relations in illustrated Grimm's Tales on the interpersonal level. It has found that the relations are of three types of logico-semantic expansion: elaboration,enhancement and extension,which can hopefully shed light on decoding illustrated Grimm's Tales and other multimodal children's books in the age of pictorialization. |
