Sichuan-tibet railway is a railway engineering with the most complicated natural and
geological conditions. Mountain hazards, as key controlling points of local or whole railway line, affect the success or failure of the sichuan-tibet railway construction. The Kangding - Changdu section proposed Sichuan-tibet railway has nearly 700 km long. The section has complex geoloigical conditions and various landforms. By field survey and remote sensing interpretation, we find out that there are 186 collapses and 206 landslides, and 66 landslides and 40 collapses have a potential hazard and influence on the proposed railway engineering in the section. On this basis, we firstly classify the landslides affecting the railway engineering into 5 categories. They are respectively rainfall-induced landslides, earthquake-induced landslides, freezing and thawing-induced landslides, slope toe erosion- induced landslides and man-made induced landslides. The collapses areclassified into 2 categories: hard rock and soft rock collapses. Then, we deeply analyze and studythe characteristics, mechanism and impossible hazard ways on the proposed railway engineering of the different types of typical landslides (e.g. Desha landslide of Baiyu county, Guchi village landlside of Jiangda county, Maoyanba landslide of Litang county, Arixia landslide of Baiyu county )and collapses (e.g. Wasigou collapse of Kangding county and Cuopu gulley collapse of Batang county ).
